In particular, cloud applications and artificial intelligence require ever-increasing computing capacities. The Association of the Internet Industry eco e. V. predicts an increase in the required IT connection capacity in Germany of more than 50 percent by 2030. According to the association, actual demand could be significantly higher. <\/strong><\/p><p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/international.eco.de\/presse\/majority-of-the-population-supports-the-expansion-of-data-centres-in-germany\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent representative survey by YouGov commissioned by eco \u2013 Association of the Internet Industry<\/a> shows that the further expansion of data centers is supported by a broad majority of the population \u2013 both at the national and regional levels.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f80920c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1f80920c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Digital sovereignty strengthens acceptance\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4e3cff4a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4e3cff4a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>According to the study, <strong>60 percent of respondents consider the further expansion of data centers to be important or very important<\/strong> to strengthen Germany&#8217;s digital performance and digital sovereignty. Only seven percent rate the expansion as rather or very unimportant. <\/p><p>High acceptance is also evident at the regional level. <strong>50 percent of respondents support the expansion of data center infrastructure in their own region<\/strong>, while only 11 percent reject it. The following aspects in particular are viewed critically: <\/p><ul><li>43% cite high power consumption.<\/li><li>31% are critical of the load on the power grids.<\/li><li>29% rate water consumption for cooling systems as problematic.<\/li><li>22% express concerns regarding space requirements.<\/li><li>22% want stronger environmental and climate protection when building new data centers.<\/li><\/ul><p><br><strong>The results make it clear that social acceptance is closely linked to topics such as energy efficiency, resource conservation, and transparent planning.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd16b5a elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fd16b5a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Economic benefits are predominantly recognized\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-35c0be7a elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"35c0be7a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>A closer look at the survey shows that economic reservations play only a minor role. Only 14 percent of respondents are of the opinion that data centers create too few local jobs.
