Reaches New All-Time High<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-34caf000 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"34caf000\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Cloud computing is now an integral part of corporate IT. According to the latest Bitkom Cloud Report 2026, <strong>86 percent of German companies already use<\/strong> cloud services. A further 14 percent are in the planning or discussion phase. This means that cloud computing now plays a role in practically all companies.   <\/p><p>In terms of operating models, the <strong>private cloud remains ahead of the public cloud with 64 percent usage<\/strong>, which is currently used by <strong>53 percent<\/strong> of companies.<\/p><p>The cloud is also continuing to gain economic importance. Already 22 percent of companies offer products or services entirely or partially as a cloud service. While around 16 percent of companies with 20 to 99 employees work entirely cloud-based, this share rises to 26 percent for companies with more than 500 employees. <\/p><p>At the same time, the share of cloud-based applications is growing continuously. Currently, an average of 47 percent of all IT applications are operated from the cloud. Within the next five years, 69 percent already expect these offerings to have high relevance. <\/p><p><strong>Databases<br\/><\/strong>Cloud usage for databases is expected to rise from 58 to 78 percent.<\/p><p><strong>IT Security<br\/><\/strong>Cloud-based security solutions are also gaining significantly in importance. This represents a significant increase compared to the previous survey. <\/p><p><strong>Other important motives include:<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>Digitization of internal processes (71%)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Cost reduction (67%)<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Access to innovative technologies such as AI and IoT (56%)<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><br>At the same time, cloud spending is increasing. 64 percent of companies already report higher operating costs. For the year 2026, 54 percent expect further cost increases.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2aa589f3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"2aa589f3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Digital Sovereignty Influences Provider Selection<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d72a08b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d72a08b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The results regarding digital sovereignty are particularly interesting.<\/p><p><strong>For 95 percent of companies, IT security, data protection, and compliance are among the most important selection criteria for a cloud provider.<\/strong><\/p><p>At the same time, there is a clear difference between actual usage and the desired provider landscape.<\/p><p><strong>Usage versus Preference<\/strong><\/p><ul><li><strong>71% currently use US cloud providers.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Only 8% would prefer them.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>53% use German providers.<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>91% desire German cloud offerings.<\/strong><\/li><\/ul><p><br>Furthermore, 85 percent of companies consider Germany&#8217;s dependence on US hyperscalers to be too high. 80 percent are in favor of high-performance German or European alternatives. <\/p><p>However, 43 percent do not yet see any equivalent European solutions for their individual requirements.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37f096e8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"37f096e8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Vendor Lock-in Remains a Central Problem<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-bce0d8b elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"bce0d8b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Another finding of the report concerns companies&#8217; willingness to switch.<\/p><p>59 percent of respondents see so-called <strong>vendor lock-in effects as a significant hurdle when switching cloud providers<\/strong>. At the same time, requirements are changing. In addition to scalability and innovation, <strong>IT security, compliance, <a href=\"https:\/\/firstcolo.net\/en\/what-is-cloud-sovereignty-and-why-is-it-important\/\">digital sovereignty<\/a><\/strong>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/firstcolo.net\/raus-aus-dem-vendor-lock-in\/\"><strong>avoidance of vendor lock-in<\/strong><\/a> are becoming increasingly important.  <\/p><p>For companies, this means that in the future, cloud strategies should no longer be evaluated solely from a cost or performance perspective.
