Machine humming and fan noise: The typical soundscape of a data center doesn’t exactly sound like music to the ears. Yet we’ve created a special ambient track from precisely these sounds: the “Data Center Ambient Mix” by firstcolo.
On the occasion of Make Music Day on June 21 (Fête de la Musique), we present an approximately 21-minute sound composition (plus hidden track) that combines the everyday sounds of our data center with atmospheric ambient sounds. The result is an unusual soundscape that places the data center as the pulse of digitalization at the center. The track doesn’t take itself too seriously and is best understood as a playful sonic experiment that shows with a wink how something entirely new can emerge from “ordinary machine noise.”
For those who find themselves pondering while listening, we’ve also compiled a brief essay that raises philosophical questions: Where does human activity actually end and where does machine activity begin? What role does humanity play in an increasingly digitalized world?
