SPoF (Single Point of Failure)

A Single Point of Failure (SPoF) is a vulnerability in a system or a single vulnerable point. It is characterized by the fact that the failure of a single component leads to the failure of the entire system. SPoFs often occur in complex, networked systems.

Example

A well-known example of a SPoF is the Death Star in ‘Star Wars’, where a single hit at the weak point triggers a chain reaction that leads to the destruction of the entire Death Star.

SPoF in the data center

In the data center, a Single Point of Failure can be a device, person, or facility that exists only once in the data center infrastructure. It can be critical servers, power supplies, or network connections. Thus, it represents a lack of redundancy.
