The data center ambient mix from firstcolo

For the International "Make Music Day" (also known as the Fête de la Musique), firstcolo presents the ultimate data center ambient mix from our own data center.

The hum of machines and the noise of fans: The typical sound of a data center doesn’t exactly sound like music to the ears. But we have made a special ambient track out of it: the “Datacenter Ambient Mix” by firstcolo.

Experience data centers from a different perspective

On the occasion of “Make Music Day” on June 21 (Fête de la Musique), we present a 21-minute sound composition (plus hidden track) that combines the everyday sounds of our data center with atmospheric ambient sounds. The result is an unusual soundscape that focuses on the data center as the clock generator of digitalization. The track doesn’t take itself too seriously and should rather be understood as an affectionate sound experiment that shows with a wink how something completely new can emerge from “ordinary machine noise”.

We have also put together a short essay that raises philosophical questions for anyone who finds themselves pondering while listening: Where does human endeavor actually end and where does machine activity begin? What role do humans play in an increasingly digitalized world?

The music mix and essay are now available for free download as a zip file (approx. 52MB):
