Frankfurt, January 23, 2025. Since 2018, Jerome Evans, founder and Managing Director of firstcolo GmbH, has already made it possible to build a total of three schools in Ghana through fundraising campaigns. As a result, hundreds of children of different age groups have received a place to learn in safe, modern school buildings, including sanitary facilities. Most recently, in 2023, a girls’ school was built as a pilot project. The goal: to increase the proportion of girls who want to start school education. “Education is one of the most important prerequisites for a good, self-determined life. That is why it was important to me to implement these projects together with the help of Madamfo Ghana e.V. and Bettina Manu-Landgrafe,” says Evans.
The latest project aims to improve healthcare for people in a remote region of Ghana by building a hospital. For the clinic project, Evans once again not only donated himself, but also gained numerous supporters. The originally targeted donation amount of 130,000 euros was even exceeded, with the total sum now raised reaching 146,150 euros. The new hospital will be located in Dzilakorpe, a secluded community on an island in Lake Volta that is difficult to access. The region is affected by poverty, lacking basic infrastructure and access to medical care. “To ensure medical care in Dzilakorpe, we are planning to build a health center. It is intended not only to provide basic care, but also to be a vital point of contact for expectant mothers and emergencies,” explains Evans. In addition to the clinic, the organization Madamfo Ghana e.V. is also building accommodation for medical staff and initiating training on maintenance and hygiene measures to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability. “Saving lives and improving the overall situation of the people on the ground makes this project particularly close to my heart,” Evans concludes.
