Frequently asked questions
The most important facts about data center locations at a glance:
A PoP (Point of Presence) from a data center operator's perspective is a physical location that serves as an access point for networks or services. It is typically an infrastructure that allows various network providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and customers to connect to a data center's network or a larger communications network.
A redundancy location (also known as colocation or co-location) refers to the hosting of servers, hardware, and IT infrastructure in an external data center provided by a specialized data center provider. Instead of operating one's own hardware on business premises or in a dedicated server room, the equipment is housed in a data center specifically optimized for this purpose.
The ideal location for a data center depends on various factors that concern both technical and operational aspects.
The most important criteria include geographical location, energy supply and costs, network/internet connection(s), security aspects, legal and regulatory factors, as well as scalability and flexibility.
In summary, the ideal location for a data center is a balanced combination of secure geographical location, optimal energy supply, good network connectivity, cost-effective property availability, and stable regulatory framework conditions.
