firstcloud is based on an OpenStack infrastructure distributed across multiple data centers. The software package consists of the following components:
Dashboard
(Horizon)
The dashboard allows for centralized management of resources. Virtual machines can be easily connected to each other. Access is through a single interface.
Identity Service
(Keystone)
Identity Service manages access rights and authentications in the cloud by assigning each user ("tenant") an individualized access with defined rights.
Object Service
(Swift)
Swift is the object storage that works redundantly across multiple locations as an archive storage. This is particularly suitable for storing backups, VM images, or other files such as pictures.
Image Service
(Glance)
Image Service allows creating images of cloud instances and accessing them as needed. Thus, entire environments can be created based on individual images.
Networking Service
(Neutron)
Networking Service enables centralized management of individual network components, such as IP addresses and VPN access. It also ensures secure data transfer between virtual instances within the cloud.
Block Storage
(Cinder)
For storage provisioning, virtual block storage can be created, which behaves like physical hard drives but is infinitely scalable. Backups of the data can be generated effortlessly.
